Biomechanical Assessments and custom made orthotics.

If you suffer with foot, heel, ankle, knee, hip or lower back pain or general fatigue in your feet, it can be associated with a poor function or malalignment of the body. This can be caused by poor foot function, which can cause pain in other joints.

A biomechanical assesment involves observeing and measuring joint function and alignment, and it's relevance to problems elsewhere in the knees, hips etc. We then take a plaster cast of the foot (non weight bearing) in order to have a specific device made. The podiatrist then uses the information to decide the type of orthotic the patient might benefit from using. It is very important that each device suits the needs, and life style, of the patient. You will only benefit from using an orthotic if you use it for 80% of the time so it is important they can be fitted and worn in shoes that are worn regularly.

We follow up all patients who have orthotics from us for at least 2 years.
